While I've seen, and enjoyed, the mini version of Stroller Strides that my daughter has often displayed around the house using her stroller, a baby and a scarf it cracked me up the other day to see both kids conducting a modified version of Stroller Strides in the backyard. Dylan, my daughter, had on her visor and was teaching Quinn, my son. They both had baby doll strollers with a baby or stuffed animal tucked inside. One of them had gone into my office and swiped a pair of exercise tubes to use - each having their own stuffed inside their stroller.
I noticed it was strangely quiet inside so I looked outside to see them doing maniacs (running in place). I discreetly opened the door so that I could hear what was going on without them noticing me. Pretty soon Dylan was leading Quinn in a lunge walk over to the next station - the fence! They parked their strollers facing the fence and got into wall sit position. Then, they even began to sing, "If You're Happy & You Know It"! Too, too cute! Pretty soon they moved on to the next station and did other moves, all the while Dylan was giving Quinn instruction on proper form! This all went on for 15 more minutes. How great it was to see them playing 'exercise'!

Healthy Home Party
Last week our Stroller Strides & LUNA Moms Club held a Healthy Home Party. LUNA & the organization, Healthy Child, Healthy World (www.healthychild.org) provided our group with great inforamtion on how to make our homes healthier. The information available was great! We even had a chance to make our own homemade cleaning products. It's amazing what you can do with a little vinegar, baking soda & borax!
The turnout of moms and kiddos was fantastic! I'm so glad we were able to have a chance to get together & share information on simple ways to limit the amount of toxins in our homes.
If you're interested in learning more about ways to make your home healtheir or about the organization Healthy Child, Healthy World you might be interested in the following:

Time.....What Time?
I know, believe me...I know. Sometimes it feels like you don't have any energy to workout, or any time. Or, the issue of, "What do I do with my kiddos?" may arise. And, the litany of excuses goes on and on. We all lead busy lives and as mommies probably put ourselves on the back burner on a fairly regular basis. I have certainly been guilty of doing that on occassion. But, I find when I don't put myself & exercise as a priority I'm a grumpier mama, not as productive, and a bit more unorganized in general. It's an easy remedy, right?
For me, having a routine built into my day is what works. I know what to expect as does my body. Having regular times of exercise is key. I love the consistency that our Stroller Strides classes brings to my life and to my kids as well. The classes are offered 5 days a week (pick a couple that work for you!), in the morning (before interfering too much with naps and other daily schedules), and are an excellent workout. They're great for the babies & kids because they get fresh air, get to see mom being active, get to interact with other kids, and have some playtime at the park after class. It's a perfect morning!
And, you know what? I'm happier, more productive and a (bit) more organized in general.
Come join us at Stroller Strides to see if it works for you!

The Weather is Heating Up!
Ah, warm weather has finally come to the Boise area! Summer is nearly here and it barely feels like we got to enjoy Spring. Next weekend is Memorial Day Weekend which 'officially' starts the summer season - travel, swimming, picnics in the park, vacations, BBQs....the list goes on. I can't wait!
However, one of the drawbacks of our summer weather is the sometimes intense heat. The heat can sometimes make us feel like limiting our outdoor activities to stay inside and enjoy the comforts of A/C. But, don't let it trap you indoors! If you plan for it - you can still enjoy being outdoors doing the things you love. Some ideas to help combat the heat outdoors:
1. Start early! Plan for the heat and realize that the middle of the day heat into the late afternoon can be the most intense. So, if you plan your activities early in the morning you'll get a jump start on beating the heat!
2. Be prepared! Always pack plenty of water for you and your little ones. Stash water bottles in the bottom of the stroller and never be caught without it. Especially if you're exercising in the heat your liquids will deplete sooner than in average tempartures. Be prepared with plenty of liquids.
3. Dress appropriately! If you're out in the morning when it is still cool, dress in layers. As the weather heats up you can peel off the layers to cool down. Don't dress your little ones too warmly either. Remember the hats & sunglasses too!
4. Sunscreen up! Don't forget that precious lotion at home. Apply before heading outside and during your activities out as it does wear off. Remember to keep the little ones in sunscreen too - their skin is even more tender than ours. The sunscreen sticks are a great way to get sunscreen on their faces and ears without too much 'stickiness' on their skin.
5. Cool it down! A trick to keep yourself cool during your daily exercise, is to pack along a spray bottle. Fill it up with ice cold water before leaving home, pack it in your stroller and use it to mist yourself and your little one during your workout. Another helpful tip is to take a washcloth and soak it in water. Put the wet washcloth in a Ziplock bag with extra water and freeze it. On your way out the door grab your ice cold bag and throw it in your stroller. While you're out, use your ice cold washcloth to help cool you down. Works wonders!
Hopefully these little quick and easy tips will help you be prepared for a great Summer outdoors. Bring on the heat!

Week #13!
Today marks week 13 in pregnancy #3! Yay! Thank goodness that the 2nd trimester is here! Chasing after two kids (ages 4 & 2), dealing with a flooded house while living in a hotel for 8 weeks (the saga deserves a blog of its own!), and trying to keep our life and Stroller Strides in order has been a great distracter from the nausea and fatigue during the first part of pregnancy.
During it all, teaching Stroller Strides' classes has been the BEST thing - surprisingly enough! In the mornings when I felt like I just didn't have it in me to get up and off the hotel's hide-a-bed (don't ask!) I powered through the nauseousness to teach classes. Amazingly, once I started moving and teaching I felt awesome. Getting active and exercising has been THE best remedy for morning sickness & fatigue. It's true - expending energy begets energy! The more you give, the more you get.
I also have to take the time here to send a GREAT big 'Thank You!' to all the Stroller Strides mamas and LUNA Moms Club moms who have been so gracious and generous to me & my family during this time. From bringing meals (a whopping 17!), pulling together for a Target gift card, watching my kiddos, and the all around genuine concern - you ladies are truly stupendous! I couldn't have asked for a better group of mamas! Thank you!
